Entomology department is the core founding department of the organization and one of our key departments in leading in documentation of diversity, biology, ecology, and importance of insects in Papua New Guinea. Our entomology team comprised of 11 staffs who are well trained specialist in various insect taxon. The top key orders studied are Lepidoptera, Coleoptera, Hemiptera, Hymenoptera, and other insects’ taxon. In 2012, the department expanded in terms of manpower as well infrastructure. Since the change the staff have been involved in conducting multiple projects and have been involved in teaching and mentoring students, as well as in pursuing research.
The department had made major breakthrough in science in supplementing insect DNA, documentation and adding new species to the world of science. The department has databased over 2000 plus insect species records.
